Ostend

Exhibition
A personal look at the east of Frankfurt, a look at its people.
My work is fundamentally about people, about their humanity. It is important to me to show the connection in the same living space. In Ostend, everything is changing; it is a mirror of time in which the past, present and desired future are visible. This transformation is exciting. It clearly shows how we are constantly moving and nothing is fixed. Everything pulsates, grows, dies, comes, goes – and this is natural. The fact that the movement has so many facets touches me.
I looked for people who played a role in Ostend’s past, people who have had a lot to do with the district’s change, and people who have lived here, for a very long time or only recently. I portrayed people for whom Ostend is only a place of work and others who work and live here. With my portrait series, I wanted to draw a social cross-section through a district in transition. I also conducted a short interview with each of the people I photographed, with questions about my counterpart’s relationship to the district.
