Library of Generations, 2000-2105
an “open archive” by Sigrid Sigurdsson at the Historisches Museum Frankfurt
The Library of Generations is an intergenerational memory project initiated by the artist Sigrid Sigurdsson and exhibited at the historisches museum frankfurt. Until the year 2105, an alternative memory of the city will be created, composed of 200 memories and reports from people of different ages and professions, with different interests and different origins. The Library of Generations is an “open archive” that will grow steadily over the years, collecting life stories and research, films and photographs, documents and tapes, books, drawings and other memorabilia. In the end, the archive will comprise more than 200 years of remembered and lived history. Two authorships are awarded each year, with the topic and design of the contributions left entirely up to the authors. The only condition: the contribution must have a connection to Frankfurt.
In 2010, I was commissioned to create portraits of all the authors for the reorganization of the Library of Generations. All the portraits created so far are on display in the Frankfurt Jetzt! exhibition space in the Historisches Museum
